ALLIANCE FOR THE CUMBERLANDS is a partnership of over eighty public and private organizations that are committed to equitable growth and resource conservation within the Cumberland Plateau region.

With equally viable, competing needs of economic growth and conservation, we unite the region’s wealth creators, policy makers and caretakers to craft a shared vision for preserving the Cumberland way of life – its globally unique ecosystem and its rich history and culture.

Our Region

Created nearly 500 million years ago by unimaginable tectonic forces, the Cumberland Plateau has stood as a testament to the power and creative force of nature. Carved by water and ice for millennia, the plateau has evolved into a highly dissected tableland of rich biological and botanical diversity, sheltering many plant and animal species which can be found nowhere else in the world.

We are a regional organization which, though currently most active in Tennessee, encourages work that supports our goals and partnerships throughout the Cumberlands of West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama.
